Warriors fully focused on AFCON preps

The Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team, the Warriors, have officially begun their training camp in Durban, South Africa, as they prepare for their final two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Despite being mathematically eliminated from World Cup contention last month, these two fixtures are viewed as vital steps in preparing the squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The Warriors held their first training session on Monday ahead of their match against South Africa. The initial workout was attended by the locally-based players, who arrived in Durban on Sunday, and the South Africa-based contingent.

According to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), the remaining squad members—including the Europe-based players—have started arriving, with others expected to join the camp on Tuesday. This influx will bring the squad to full strength for the final phase of their preparations.

Final World Cup Qualifier Fixtures

The Warriors’ remaining Group C fixtures are:

  • Friday, October 10: vs. South Africa at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
  • Monday, October 13: vs. Lesotho at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

These matches will provide a crucial opportunity for the technical team to fine-tune tactics and assess combinations ahead of the AFCON finals.
