Lupane MP commissions new school

Member of Parliament for Lupane Constituency, Siphathisiwe Machangu, joined the Anglican Church in commissioning the newly established St Cecilia School at St Paul’s Kabela, Matabeleland North Province, yesterday.

Speaking at the commissioning, Machangu described the establishment of the school as a critical step in advancing inclusive development and improving learning opportunities for children in Lupane and surrounding areas.

“Education is the foundation upon which communities are transformed and nations are built. When we invest in schools such as St Cecilia, we are investing in the future of our children, our communities and our country.

No child should be disadvantaged because of where they are born, and this school is a practical response to that challenge,” she said.

Highlighting the Education 5.0 policy, Machangu said the approach was central to equipping learners with skills relevant to modern socio-economic demands.

“Education 5.0 is not just about teaching in classrooms. It is about research, community service, innovation and industrialisation. It is about producing problem-solvers who can contribute meaningfully to national development,” she said.

She commended the Anglican Church for its long-standing role in complementing Government efforts in education delivery, particularly in rural and marginalised communities.

“Churches have always been reliable partners in development. The Anglican Church continues to demonstrate that when we work together as Government, churches and communities, we can achieve far more for our people,” Machangu noted.

The MP said the establishment of St Cecilia School would significantly reduce the distances travelled by learners, a challenge that has affected school attendance and performance in the area.

“Our children have been walking long distances to access education. This school will ease that burden and create an environment where learners can thrive,” she stated

Community leaders welcomed the development, describing it as a milestone that would improve education outcomes and contribute to broader social and economic progress in Lupane.

The commissioning of St Cecilia School adds to ongoing infrastructure and human capital investments across the country, reinforcing Government’s commitment to education-led development as Zimbabwe advances under the Second Republic.
