ZERA announces new petroleum prices

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new petroleum prices, which will take effect from 4 March, 2026 and remain in force for the next two weeks. The revised prices come amid efforts by the Government to cushion consumers from sharp increases in global oil markets.

According to ZERA, the new retail prices per litre are: diesel (50 ppm) at ZWG 45.55 or US$1.77, and petrol Blend (E5) at ZWG 44.01 or US$1.71.

In its statement, ZERA explained that the adjustments follow Government intervention to reduce some statutory charges.

“The above prices are as a result of Government reducing some of its charges to cushion consumers from the astronomical increases that have occurred due to changes in the international market.

Without Government cushioning, the actual prices would have been US$1.90 per litre for diesel and US$1.81 per litre for blend,” the regulatory authority said.

ZERA added that it will continue to monitor market developments closely to ensure adequate supply of petroleum products across the country.

“In the meantime, ZERA will be closely monitoring the market developments to ensure that there is adequate supply in the market,” the statement read.

The authority also advised stakeholders and consumers to verify all petroleum price releases through its official platforms, including its website, Facebook page, and X (formerly Twitter) account, to guard against misinformation.

In other news Europe gas prices have surged by 46%, while South Africa is expected to increase by 15% today.

The price adjustments come amid increased volatility in global oil markets, largely driven by escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which continue to disrupt supply chains and influence international fuel prices. Authorities say ongoing monitoring of global trends and timely domestic price reviews will remain essential to protect consumers while ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of fuel in the country.
