Health Minister assesses service delivery at Parirenyatwa

Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Douglas Mombeshora, on Tuesday, made an unannounced visit to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals to assess the quality of care being rendered to patients.

Speaking during the visit, Dr Mombeshora said it was important for the Ministry to regularly interact with patients and frontline health workers in order to identify challenges and areas requiring urgent attention.

“As a Ministry, we must continuously assess the quality of care being provided to our people. We cannot rely only on reports; we need to hear directly from patients and staff so that we respond appropriately to their needs” Dr Mombeshora said.

The Health Minister said the positive feedback from patients was encouraging and reflected the commitment of health workers at Parirenyatwa.

“It is reassuring to hear patients expressing gratitude and satisfaction with the services they are receiving. This shows that our health workers remain committed to their duty, even under difficult circumstances, he said.

Dr Mombeshora also held brief discussions with hospital management and staff, where issues relating to resources, infrastructure and service efficiency were raised.

He said the Ministry would continue working to address challenges facing public health institutions.

“Parirenyatwa is a critical national referral hospital, and we remain committed to supporting it to deliver quality, accessible and dignified health care,” Dr Mombeshora said.

The Minister moved through several wards where he spoke to patients and their relatives, enquiring about waiting times, availability of medicines and the conduct of health personnel.

Patients expressed satisfaction with the care they are receiving, with many commending health workers for their professionalism and dedication despite operational challenges.

“We are happy with the way we are being treated here. The nurses and doctors are doing their best, and we feel well cared for,” one patient said.

Another patient echoed similar sentiments, saying the quality of care had improved.

“We are grateful for the attention we are getting and the way staff attend to us,” the patient said.

The visit, which comes amid ongoing efforts by Government to improve public health service delivery, was aimed at gaining first-hand appreciation of conditions at the hospital and the experiences of patients receiving treatment.
