Chevrons slip in super eight opener

Zimbabwe’s momentum at the ICC T20 World Cup has been checked after a heavy 107-run defeat to West Indies this Monday. However, the Chevrons remain firmly in the hunt as they continue their historic Super Eight campaign.

Chasing a record target, Zimbabwe were undone by the early loss of wickets, never quite recovering from the damage inflicted inside the powerplay.

A spirited counterattack from Brad Evans, who struck 43 from just 22 deliveries, proved to be in vain as Zimbabwe were eventually bowled out for 147.

Earlier, the West Indies had posted a mammoth 254, setting the tone with an explosive batting display that left Zimbabwe with too much to do under pressure.

Despite the setback, there is still plenty of belief in the Zimbabwe camp.

The Chevrons arrived in the Super Eight brimming with confidence after progressing through the group stages unbeaten, a run that underlined their growth and competitiveness on the global stage.

Zimbabwe now turn their focus to a crunch clash against hosts India on Thursday.

India, too, will be eager to bounce back after suffering a 76-run defeat to South Africa in their opening Super Eight match.

As first-time participants at this stage of the tournament, Zimbabwe will be looking to draw on their resilience and earlier form as they chase another statement performance on the world stage.
