Zaka shoot-out claims two detectives

Two police detectives were fatally shot yesterday morning during a confrontation with an armed suspect in Ndanga, under Zaka. One detective died at the scene, while the second passed away en route to Masvingo Provincial Hospital despite efforts to save his life.

The suspect, Daniel Munyanyi, remains on the run. He is believed to be part of a five-member robbery syndicate that police have been tracking across Zimbabwe. Four of his alleged accomplices have already been arrested, but Munyanyi reportedly opened fire on the detectives before fleeing.National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the tragic incident, noting that the detectives involved were from the CID Homicide unit in Harare.

“It is unfortunate that our team of detectives, who were tracking armed robbers, was involved in a shoot-out that resulted in the death of two officers,” he said.

Comm Nyathi vowed that the fugitive will be apprehended and urged the public to assist law enforcement.

“We will soon release a full statement detailing what transpired, but we appeal to anyone with information on the whereabouts of Daniel Munyanyi to contact the nearest police station. What we want to assure Zimbabweans is that the suspect will be arrested and will face the full wrath of the law.”
