Zanu PF UK District rallies behind Constitutional Amendment No. 3

The ZANU PF United Kingdom District has pledged full support for the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, stressing that it is the responsibility of every party member to champion resolutions that advance national development.

In a telephone interview yesterday, ZANU PF United Kingdom District Chairman, Xavier Zavare said members must be adequately informed about the proposed amendments and encouraged the use of national languages to ensure citizens fully understand the Bill’s implications.

He noted that the district’s position aligns with resolutions adopted at the 22nd ZANU PF Annual National People’s Conference held last October in Mutare.

“The Amendment Bill is coming on the back of resolutions passed at the conference, particularly Resolution Number One to enable President Emmerson Mnangagwa to be in office up to 2030. We understand where the amendment is coming from, and we stand guided by that,” Zavare said.

He added that the UK District actively participated in drafting conference resolutions and therefore fully supports the constitutional proposals.

Zavare emphasised the need for ZANU PF members, Government officials and various structures to ensure that Zimbabweans at home and abroad are reached with clear information about government and party programmes. He said this aligns with the national thrust of leaving no one and no place behind.

“Our Constitution recognises at least 16 languages, and those languages are recognised for a reason. It means that the party and the Government have to ensure that people are reached in the language they understand,” he said.

“Sometimes the debates and discussions can be very technical to ordinary people, hence it is best to explain issues in the simplest language.”

The Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill seeks to align election cycles with the country’s long-term development agenda while extending the presidential term from five to seven years. Proponents say this extension would enhance policy continuity and strengthen national development initiatives.
