UK confirms ZITF return

The United Kingdom has confirmed its participation at this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), set to take place next month in Bulawayo, marking another step forward in strengthening trade and investment relations between the two countries.

The move signals renewed confidence in Zimbabwe’s economic direction and underscores growing interest from British companies seeking to explore new commercial prospects.

Speaking on the UK’s involvement, on Monday, Ambassador Pete Vowles said, “We are taking part in this year’s trade fair. Remember, the United Kingdom is also focusing on more trade relations with Zimbabwe, so this will give us that platform for us to see what is available on local opportunities.”

UK participation at the 2026 ZITF aligns with ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral ties, particularly under the Government’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” policy, which continues to attract international partners eager to tap into the country’s economic potential.

By taking part in the trade fair, British firms will have an opportunity to assess investment avenues across priority sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, mining, energy, and services.

Local business leaders have welcomed the UK’s return to ZITF.

Former president of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, Mike Kamungeremu, said, “We are ready to work with the United Kingdom in finding each other on viable projects. The UK is and still remains a dominant player in the country’s trade development agenda, so indeed this confirmation by the United Kingdom is very important because as a business we are also looking forward to working with them.”

For Zimbabwe, the renewed engagement opens doors for fresh export opportunities, particularly in horticulture, where demand in the UK market continues to rise.

“Expanding horticultural exports to the United Kingdom will not only grow our market reach but also support rural farmers and strengthen value chains,” noted a senior ZITF official.

Increased access to British buyers has the potential to boost value chains, create jobs, and support rural livelihoods through expanded production for export.

ZITF remains one of Africa’s premier business exhibitions, drawing companies, investors, and policymakers from across the region and beyond. This year’s edition is expected to build on that legacy by connecting global and local enterprises, promoting innovation, and showcasing the country’s competitive advantages.

Ambassador Vowles emphasised the long-term benefits of collaboration.

“We hope to establish sustainable partnerships that will benefit both Zimbabwean and UK businesses. The trade fair provides the ideal platform to build strong commercial relationships and discover new opportunities,” he said.

The UK’s participation not only enriches the event’s international profile but also highlights growing economic cooperation at a time when Zimbabwe is pursuing deeper global integration and increased foreign direct investment. As the countdown to ZITF begins, both nations stand poised to leverage the platform to strengthen partnerships, grow trade volumes, and lay the groundwork for new development-oriented ventures.
