The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has announced that it will roll out a series of Consumer Education and Awareness Roadshows in Manicaland this week.
In a statement yesterday, POTRAZ urged residents across the province to attend the outreach programme, saying the initiative is designed to equip consumers with practical information on how to navigate the increasingly digital environment.
“Join us this week for our Consumer Education and Awareness Roadshows in Manicaland Province.
We are going to be empowering residents of Manicaland province with knowledge on their consumer rights, how to lodge complaints, the role of POTRAZ, cyberbullying, the Cyber and Data Protection Act and more,”POTRAZ added
The authority said the roadshows will provide a platform for direct engagement between consumers and regulators, allowing citizens to better understand complaint handling procedures and the protections available to them under existing laws.
“Consumers will learn how to effectively lodge complaints and seek redress when they encounter challenges with service providers.
We are bringing information closer to the people so that no one is left behind in the digital age,”POTRAZ said
The campaign will also place strong emphasis on online safety, particularly in light of rising cases of cyberbullying and misuse of digital platforms.
POTRAZ said educating the public on the provisions of the Cyber and Data Protection Act remains critical in promoting responsible digital behaviour.
“Cyberbullying and data protection are key issues affecting communities today.Through these roadshows, we aim to raise awareness and encourage safer use of digital technologies,”the authority noted
In addition to educational sessions, POTRAZ said the events will incorporate entertainment and interactive activities to attract families and ensure broader participation.
“Expect prizes, giveaways and fun-filled edutainment for the whole family. Be there,” the authority said.
The roadshows form part of POTRAZ’s ongoing nationwide consumer empowerment programme, which seeks to bridge the information gap between regulators and the public while fostering a more informed and responsible telecommunications user base.
