Zim shines as UN Tourism unveils 2027 general assembly logo

Zimbabwe has taken centre stage on the global tourism platform following the unveiling of the official logo for the 2027 UN Tourism General Assembly at a high-level meeting, held in Victoria Falls, yesterday.

The milestone announcement was made during a session focused on resilience in the tourism sector, where global leaders and stakeholders gathered to discuss sustainable tourism and strategies to navigate emerging challenges.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi said the unveiling of the logo, themed around tourism resilience and sustainability, was a strong endorsement of Zimbabwe’s growing influence on the global stage.

“This morning at the UN Tourism meeting, the Secretary-General addressed sustainable tourism during a critical session on resilience in the sector. The major highlight for Zimbabwe is the unveiling of the official logo for the 2027 UN General Assembly, launched to the world for the first time here in Victoria Falls,” she said.

“We are immensely proud, as this speaks volumes about Zimbabwe as a destination and reflects the strong relationship between President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Government and UN Tourism. It is a clear endorsement of our country.”

Minister Rwodzi said the hosting of the unveiling demonstrates growing international confidence in Zimbabwe’s tourism sector.

“This is not just about a logo, but about confidence in Zimbabwe as a host and as a contributor to global tourism dialogue. It shows that our policies and our vision for tourism are being recognised internationally,” she said.

She added that the focus on resilience and sustainability resonates with Zimbabwe’s long-term tourism strategy.

“We are deliberately positioning our tourism sector to be resilient to global shocks while ensuring sustainability. This includes protecting our natural heritage and ensuring that communities benefit from tourism,” said Minister Rwodzi.

The event was convened under the auspices of UN Tourism and brought together policymakers, industry leaders and development partners to deliberate on building a more resilient and sustainable tourism sector.

Minister Rwodzi said Zimbabwe will leverage the momentum from the unveiling as it prepares to host the global gathering.

“We are now focused on preparations for 2027, ensuring that Zimbabwe delivers a world-class event that reflects our capacity and showcases our tourism potential,” she said.

Victoria Falls, one of the world’s premier tourist destinations, provided a fitting backdrop for the unveiling, reinforcing its status as a hub for international tourism dialogue and cooperation.

The 2027 UN Tourism General Assembly is expected to attract worldwide attention, drawing key stakeholders from across the globe to explore innovative approaches to sustainable tourism development.

“As Zimbabwe, we are ready to play our part in shaping the future of global tourism. This is an opportunity to share our experiences and also learn from others,” she said.

As preparations gather momentum, the unveiling of the logo in Victoria Falls marks a significant step in positioning Zimbabwe as a key player in shaping the future of international tourism.
