Zim strengthens Multi-Agency Fight Against Corruption

Personnel from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe joined key anti-corruption institutions in Mutare yesterday for a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening coordination and improving Zimbabwe’s fight against corruption.

The meeting, spearheaded by Transparency International Zimbabwe, brought together representatives from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), the Zimbabwe Republic Police Anti-Corruption Unit, the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) and the Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC).

Addressing delegates during the meeting, Transparency International Zimbabwe Executive Director, Tafadzwa Chikumbu, stressed the need for stronger institutional frameworks to ensure anti-corruption agencies remain effective in responding to increasingly sophisticated corruption networks.

“The people that are corrupt are always ahead of current systems, so if we have strong anti-corruption mechanisms, we will be more effective.

There is need to improve coordination among institutions involved in investigations, prosecutions and oversight to ensure timely reporting and efficient case management,” he added

Meanwhile, in a statement following the engagement, the NPAZ said the meeting reflected growing momentum towards a more coordinated national response to corruption anchored on institutional cooperation and transparency.
