Zimbabwe and the Republic of Korea have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation following high-level engagements held on the sidelines of the 2026 Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Seoul, South Korea, yesterday.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, said the Ministry’s Deputy Minister, Sheillah Chikomo participated in the strategic meeting, which served as a platform for deepening partnerships between African nations and the Republic of Korea.
“The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hon. Sheillah Chikomo, participated in the 2026 Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Seoul, South Korea on 1 June 2026, where 50 African countries were represented.
The meeting underscored the growing importance of Africa-Korea relations and provided opportunities for dialogue on trade, investment, technology transfer, infrastructure development and other areas aimed at advancing sustainable economic growth,” it added.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Deputy Minister held bilateral talks with South Korea’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Eui-hae Cecilia Chung, where the two officials discussed opportunities to expand cooperation between Harare and Seoul.
“On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy Minister Chikomo met with her counterpart, the Korean Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Ms. Eui-hae Cecilia Chung, and discussed areas of cooperation between Zimbabwe and the Republic of Korea.
The discussions have focused on strengthening diplomatic relations and identifying avenues for enhanced collaboration in sectors that can contribute to Zimbabwe’s economic transformation and development agenda,” the Ministry said.
The engagement comes as Zimbabwe continues to pursue its engagement and re-engagement policy, which seeks to strengthen relations with countries across the globe while attracting investment, trade and development partnerships.
South Korea has emerged as one of Asia’s leading economies, renowned for its technological innovation, industrialisation and investment in research and development. African countries have increasingly sought closer ties with Seoul as they pursue economic diversification, infrastructure modernisation and digital transformation.
