….reaffirms Government’s commitment to improving their welfare
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for unity, discipline and unwavering commitment to the values of the liberation struggle, while reaffirming the Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and economic empowerment of war veterans.
The President made the remarks yesterday while addressing the Fourth National Assembly of Delegates of War Veterans, Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees and Restrictees at the ZANU PF Headquarters in Harare.
Speaking at the gathering, President Mnangagwa said war veterans remain the custodians of Zimbabwe’s revolutionary heritage and have a critical role to play in safeguarding the gains of independence and promoting national development.
“ZANU PF belongs to all its members and supporters. No individual is greater than the party. We must remain united and reject all tendencies that divide our revolutionary movement,” he said.
President Mnangagwa paid tribute to veterans of the liberation struggle for their sacrifices in securing the country’s independence, saying their courage and resilience laid the foundation for Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and continued development.
He urged future generations to preserve and honour the legacy of the liberation struggle and remain committed to the ideals that inspired the fight against colonial rule.
The President said Government was implementing a number of programmes aimed at improving the welfare of war veterans and their families.
“These programmes include the expansion of the War Veterans Family Welfare Trust Fund, accelerated issuance of land title deeds, housing schemes, healthcare services, vocational training opportunities and entrepreneurship development initiatives,” he said.
Held under the theme, “Empowering War Veterans: Securing Land Title for Lasting Legacy and Prosperity,” the assembly focused on enhancing the welfare of veterans while strengthening their contribution to national development.
President Mnangagwa challenged the War Veterans League to continue mobilising communities, strengthening grassroots structures and providing ideological guidance to younger generations.
“The future of our country depends on unity, patriotism, hard work and intergenerational solidarity. We must remain focused on advancing the interests of our party and our nation,” he said.
He also urged war veterans to promote Pan-Africanism, regional solidarity and economic development across the continent while remaining vigilant against neo-colonial influences.
“As veterans of the liberation struggle, you have a responsibility to guide future generations and safeguard the values that brought freedom and independence to our country. Let us work together to build a prosperous Zimbabwe for all,” said President Mnangagwa.
The assembly brought together delegates from across the country to deliberate on issues affecting war veterans and explore strategies to enhance their welfare while strengthening their contribution to national development and the attainment of Vision 2030.
