Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Edgar Moyo, said Government is strengthening programmes aimed at supporting Zimbabweans returning home from neighbouring countries through enhanced skills development, employment creation initiatives and social protection measures.
Speaking during a high-level stakeholder engagement, yesterday, at the Beitbridge Repatriation Centre, Minister Moyo toured the centre to assess the support being provided to Zimbabweans returning from South Africa and inspected key service areas while engaging returnees, Government officials, development partners and humanitarian organisations involved in the reintegration process.
“The Government of Zimbabwe remains committed to strengthening reintegration programmes for all returning Zimbabweans through skills training, employment opportunities and enhanced social safety nets,” said Moyo.
He said the Second Republic recognises the importance of supporting citizens returning home by creating sustainable pathways that enable them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Our responsibility extends beyond receiving our citizens at the border. We are committed to ensuring that returning Zimbabweans are afforded opportunities to rebuild their lives through empowerment programmes, skills development and access to social support services that promote self-reliance and economic inclusion,” he said.
Moyo said the Beitbridge Repatriation Centre continues to play a critical role in coordinating assistance for returnees, adding that Government will continue working closely with development partners and humanitarian organisations to strengthen service delivery at the facility.
“The reintegration of returning citizens must be undertaken in a manner that preserves their dignity and protects their welfare.
This requires strong partnerships among Government institutions, humanitarian organisations and development partners to provide comprehensive support that addresses both their immediate and long-term needs,” he said.
He commended the collaborative efforts of stakeholders operating at the centre, noting that multi-sectoral partnerships remain central to improving reintegration outcomes.
“The Government appreciates the support being rendered by our partners in ensuring that returnees receive the assistance they require. Together, we are creating systems that are responsive, inclusive and sustainable,” said Minister Moyo.
Meanwhile, Government will continue assessing and enhancing existing programmes to ensure that Zimbabweans returning home are successfully reintegrated into their communities and are empowered to participate fully in the country’s socio-economic development.
