The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has deployed officers across the country to maintain law and order ahead of a planned nationwide shutdown, this Friday, assuring the public that the security situation remains calm and under control.
The deployment comes amid calls by opposition groups, civil society organisations and government critics for Zimbabweans to participate in peaceful demonstrations or a nationwide stay-away in protest against the enactment of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3 (CAA3).
In a statement, issued on Wednesday, police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said officers had been deployed nationwide to safeguard peace and ensure normalcy.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police assures Zimbabweans of peace and security in the country. The Police has made deployments in all parts of the country for effective maintenance of law and order,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He urged members of the public to continue with their normal daily activities without fear or disruption.
“In this regard, Zimbabweans should feel free to engage in normal day-to-day activities without hindrance,” he said.
Commissioner Nyathi also appealed to the public to report any criminal activity, including threats, harassment or intimidation, to the nearest police station or through the National Complaints Desk.
“The public should feel free to report any criminal activities which include threats, harassment or intimidation to the Police at any nearest Police Station or National Complaints Desk,” he said.
The reassurance comes as security agencies remain on high alert ahead of Friday, with authorities insisting that adequate measures are in place to safeguard lives, property and the smooth conduct of daily activities nationwide.
