Manicaland Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Misheck Mugadza, handed over five Public Service Commission (PSC) buses to civil servants, in Mutare District.
The five buses, comprising four 35-seater buses and one 40-seater, form part of a fleet of 55 buses recently commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for use by civil servants across the country.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, yesterday, Minister Mugadza said Government’s investment in public service transport was aimed at improving the welfare of civil servants while ensuring that they remained able to report for duty consistently and deliver services to communities.
“The handover of these five buses is a significant milestone for Manicaland and demonstrates Government’s commitment to addressing the transport challenges faced by our civil servants.
“These buses will go a long way in easing the daily transport burden on our workers, particularly those who travel long distances to and from their places of work. We are grateful for this intervention because reliable transport is an important component of an efficient and motivated public service,” he added.
Minister Mugadza said the provision of the buses was not only about improving convenience for civil servants, but also about strengthening public service delivery.
“When our civil servants have reliable and affordable means of transport, they are better placed to report for duty on time and to discharge their responsibilities effectively. Government is therefore addressing a practical challenge that has a direct bearing on service delivery,” he said.
He added that the buses would also help reduce the financial pressure on civil servants arising from daily commuting costs.
“We recognise that transport costs have become a major concern for many of our workers. The availability of these buses will provide some relief by offering a more reliable and affordable transport option,” Minister Mugadza said.
Furthermore, he urged beneficiaries to take responsibility for the vehicles and ensure they were properly maintained so that they could serve civil servants for many years.
“I want to urge those who will be entrusted with these buses to ensure that they are properly managed and maintained. These are public assets, and we have a responsibility to safeguard them and ensure that they continue serving our workers effectively,” he said.
Minister Mugadza said the intervention reflected Government’s broader efforts to improve working conditions for civil servants and to strengthen the capacity of public institutions.
“The Second Republic remains committed to improving the welfare of its workers and creating conditions that enable them to serve the people effectively. This intervention is part of that broader commitment, and we expect the buses to make a meaningful difference to our civil servants in Manicaland,” he said.
The five buses are part of the 55 recently commissioned by President Mnangagwa, with the latest handover extending the Government’s public-service transport intervention to Manicaland Province.
