Zanu PF has introduced health screening for delegates attending its annual conference, in a move aimed at promoting preventive healthcare and encouraging early detection of common health conditions.
The initiative, being conducted by NetOne’s One Health in collaboration with ZimSmart Villages, includes screening for high blood pressure, elevated blood glucose levels, prostate cancer and breast cancer.
Delegates are required to present proof of screening as part of the conference accreditation process, ensuring that participants have an opportunity to assess their health status while attending the annual gathering.
Those whose screening results indicate potential health concerns are advised to schedule further clinical assessments, allowing for additional medical evaluation where necessary. Such results do not automatically prevent delegates from attending the conference.
The screening process uses a card titled “Your Health Passport – Proof of Screening”, which records participants’ details and the outcome of their initial assessments.
Health workers record positive results where a potential concern is identified and negative results where no concern is detected.
The initiative highlights the potential of combining major public gatherings with preventive health services, providing an opportunity to raise awareness about conditions that may go undetected until they become more serious.
Moreover, organizers have highlighted that routine screening can help identify risk factors early and encourage individuals to seek appropriate medical advice, particularly for conditions such as hypertension and elevated blood glucose, which may not always present obvious symptoms.
