ZimTrade hosts UAE buyers to boost horticulture exports

ZimTrade yesterday hosted a delegation of buyers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in intensified efforts to grow horticulture exports and diversify its export markets in Zimbabwe.

In a statement yesterday, ZimTrade said the visit was organised under Zimbabwe’s export development drive.

“The visit organised under Zimbabwe’s export development drive saw the buyers touring farms and engaging directly with local export companies involved in horticulture and specialty crop production for international markets,”the statement read

ZimTrade said the mission was part of ongoing initiatives to connect Zimbabwean producers with global buyers and create new trade opportunities.

“This week, we welcomed a delegation of buyers from the UAE for an exploratory mission into Zimbabwe’s high-value produce,” said ZimTrade.

The agency said the buyers visited orchards producing sun-ripened blueberries and passion fruit, where they assessed production standards, quality systems and export readiness.

“From sun-ripened blueberry and passion fruit orchards, they met face-to-face with local export companies that drive horticulture and specialty crops to global markets,” added ZimTrade.

The trade promotion body said direct engagements between foreign buyers and Zimbabwean exporters were critical in building confidence, strengthening business relationships and paving the way for future contracts.

“This interaction is just another way we can get one step closer to increasing our horticulture exports and diversifying our export markets,” said ZimTrade.

Zimbabwe has in recent years prioritised horticulture as one of the sectors with strong potential to generate foreign currency earnings, create employment and improve rural incomes.

Products such as blueberries, citrus fruits, avocados, peas, flowers and passion fruit have continued to attract growing demand in international markets.

The latest visit is expected to strengthen trade links between Zimbabwe and the UAE while opening new opportunities for local growers seeking to increase volumes and access higher-value markets.
