Zimbabwe making waves at Africa Aquatics Championships

Zimbabwean swimmer Anje Van As continued her impressive run at the 2026 Africa Aquatics Championships, adding a silver and a bronze medal to the gold she secured on the opening day of the competition.

Van As also set a new national record in the 50-metre butterfly, reaffirming her status as one of the continent’s most dominant young swimmers.

Fellow Zimbabwean swimmer Paige Van Der Westhuizen also featured in the 50-metre butterfly, delivering a solid performance although she missed out on the medal bracket.

Zimbabwe’s overall medal tally now stands at five — one gold, three silver and one bronze — heading into day three of the continental showcase.

Most of Team Zimbabwe’s athletes return to the pool on Thursday as the nation targets an even stronger showing in the remaining events of the championships.
