A US$1.3 million shopping mall has opened in Gweru, adding modern commercial infrastructure to the city while creating new opportunities for businesses, employment and local enterprise.
Man Vim Mall is expected to provide additional retail and service space as demand for modern commercial facilities continues to grow in the Midlands capital.
The development brings together retail and service outlets, offering businesses a modern trading environment while giving residents access to a wider range of services closer to home.
Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Owen Ncube said developments of this nature should contribute to broader economic activity rather than simply providing commercial space.
“We welcome investments that expand the productive capacity of our cities. Infrastructure must create space for businesses, generate employment and support the development objectives that we have set as a country,” he said.
The opening of Man Vim Mall comes as Zimbabwe continues to pursue infrastructure development under the Second Republic, with emphasis on creating an environment that supports investment, enterprise and employment.
The project also aligns with the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which places emphasis on strengthening infrastructure and expanding economic opportunities.
Man Vim Mall representative Esther Mberi said the investment was driven by the growing demand for quality commercial space in Gweru.
“This investment responds to the growing demand for modern commercial space in Gweru. We are creating an environment where businesses can operate efficiently while giving customers a convenient and modern shopping experience,” she said.
Businesses operating from the new facility said the development could improve their visibility and customer access while creating room for expansion.
“We expect this mall to bring more customers into this area. The modern environment also allows businesses to expand and serve customers better,” said one businessperson.
Another business owner said the mall represented an important addition to Gweru’s commercial infrastructure and could generate employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
“It is important for Gweru to have infrastructure of this standard. It creates opportunities for businesses and employment, particularly for young people,” the business owner said.
Residents also welcomed the development, highlighting the convenience of having modern shopping and service facilities within closer reach.
“For us as residents, having facilities like this closer to home is convenient. It also shows that the city is developing and attracting new investment,” said one resident.
For Gweru, the new mall adds to the city’s commercial footprint while providing a platform for businesses to reach customers and for young people to access employment and enterprise opportunities.
