PSMAS takes Breast Cancer Screening to members nationwide

Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) has launched a nationwide breast cancer awareness and screening initiative targeting members aged 40 and above.

The initiative is running under the theme, “Every Story Is Unique. Every Journey Matters,” includes screening services at selected branches, staff training and weekly Pink Fridays throughout October.

In a statement, yesterday, PSMAS said the campaign was designed to bring breast health to the forefront while encouraging members to take advantage of screening opportunities before symptoms develop.

“Screening and early detection remain our strongest weapons against breast cancer. By equipping our employees with knowledge and encouraging them to show solidarity visibly, we are building a culture of awareness that extends beyond our offices and into the communities we serve,” the medical society said.

The screening programme started taking place in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Masvingo and Gweru from October 19 to 30, while Chinhoyi screenings started on October 20 and will run till the 29th.

“The initiative is part of our commitment to preventive healthcare, with the campaign encouraging eligible members to prioritise regular screening and seek medical attention when they notice unusual changes,” PSMAS said.

The Society emphasised the importance of equipping people with knowledge about cancer, including recognising warning signs and understanding the value of early detection.

“Breast cancer can develop without obvious symptoms in its early stages, making screening an important tool in identifying potential problems before they become more difficult to treat,” the Society said.

The campaign also highlights the role of workplaces in promoting health awareness, with staff training and visible participation intended to encourage open conversations about breast health and reduce hesitation around screening.
