US$10 million gas cylinder plant ignites Zim industrialisation drive

Zimbabwe’s quest for industrial transformation has gained significant momentum with the establishment of Southern Africa’s first gas cylinder manufacturing plant, a US$10 million investment by Bronzepel Gas Cylinder Manufacturing located in Zvimba District.

The factory, owned by Zimbabwean entrepreneur Mr Mohammed Jammal, has the capacity to produce over three million gas cylinders annually, positioning the country as a key regional hub for industrial gas equipment production. The venture represents a bold statement of confidence in Zimbabwe’s manufacturing potential and its march toward Vision 2030.

Currently employing over 80 workers, the plant is expected to expand its workforce to more than 400 employees once it reaches full operational capacity. The project has already become a beacon of hope for local youths, many of whom have transitioned from unemployment to gainful work in skilled trades such as welding and metal fabrication.

In an interview with the media during a site tour recently Special Advisor to the President for Monitoring the Implementation of Government Programmes Dr Joram Gumbo noted that the milestone has been hailed by Government officials as a tangible example of how public-private partnerships are delivering on the Second Republic’s industrialisation agenda.

“This company is proof of what happens when Government policy meets private sector initiative. It’s a visible expression of Vision 2030 in action,” said Dr Gumbo.

Zvimba Rural District Council Chairperson, Mr Spencer Magaya, said the plant marks a turning point for rural industrialisation.

“Development should not be confined to cities. We are seeing transformation, employment creation, and rising investor interest in our district. This is true progress toward Vision 2030,” he said.

Mr Jammal said the investment demonstrates both faith in Zimbabwe’s economy and belief in its people’s capabilities.

“We are proud to be among the first in Southern Africa to manufacture gas cylinders locally. This investment shows that Zimbabwe has the skills, the talent, and the vision. Producing over three million units a year, we aim not only to serve the local market but to export regionally, creating jobs and driving industrial growth,” he stated.

“Before I joined this company, I was struggling to find work. Now I can provide for my family and have learned new technical skills,” said one of the factory employees.

“Most of us here are young people from the community. Instead of being idle or falling into drug abuse, we are now busy earning an income and building our future. I have gained confidence, discipline, and pride in contributing to something made in Zimbabwe,” added another worker.

As Zimbabwe continues to champion industrialisation, innovation, and value addition, Bronzepel’s gas cylinder plant stands as a symbol of resilience and renewal proving that the nation is not only open for business but ready to lead in regional manufacturing excellence.
