A 25-year-old man from Chief Mutasa has been sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison after being convicted of raping his 14-year-old niece on two separate occasions, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed on Thursday.
The Mutare Regional Magistrates’ Court imposed the sentence following evidence that the offender sexually assaulted the minor in November and December 2025 and threatened to kill her to ensure her silence.
According to the NPAZ, the first incident occurred in November 2025 at around 1pm when the victim was walking along a trail.
“In November 2025, at around 1300 hours, the victim was walking along a trail when she encountered the offender, who pushed her from the path into the nearby bush and raped her,” the NPAZ said.
The court heard that the second attack took place the following month under similar circumstances.
“The second incident took place in December 2025 at approximately 0800 hours when the victim was again walking along the same path. The offender dragged her into the bush, where he raped her while gagging her mouth with a cloth,” the authority said.
The abuse came to light after the teenager informed her mother, leading to a police report and the offender’s immediate arrest.
