ZEC prepares for Chiredzi Ward 19 By-Election

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has stepped up preparations for the Chiredzi Ward 19 by-election after conducting a training session for officials and stakeholders ahead of the nomination court process.

In a statement, yesterday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, said the exercise was intended to ensure that the nomination process was conducted smoothly and transparently.

“ZEC has conducted training for its officials, council staff and stakeholders ahead of the Ward 19 nomination court, focusing on nomination procedures, verification of documents and the proper conduct of proceedings,” he said.

Mr Mangwana said the preparations were important in ensuring that those involved understood the requirements governing the nomination process and were adequately equipped to discharge their responsibilities.

“The training is aimed at ensuring a smooth and transparent nomination process, with all participants familiarising themselves with the procedures and documentation required,” he said.

Mr Mangwana said the preparations formed part of efforts to ensure that the process was handled in an orderly manner and that relevant procedures were understood by all participating officials and stakeholders.

“Proper preparation and adherence to established procedures are essential in supporting the integrity and transparency of the nomination process,” he said.

The Ward 19 council seat fell vacant by operation of law after the councillor missed three consecutive ordinary council meetings without permission, creating the need for the electoral process to fill the vacancy.

The nomination court process is a key stage in the electoral calendar, during which aspiring candidates submit their nomination papers for consideration in accordance with the applicable electoral requirements.
