Highlanders stuck in stalemate run as CAPS United seize early dominance

Harare giants CAPS United maintained their impressive start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Triangle United, while Highlanders FC were held to a frustrating goalless draw by MWOS FC at Barbourfields Stadium this Wednesday.

After three matches, Highlanders are yet to register a win, drawing all their opening fixtures.

Bosso dominated large periods of the match but failed to convert their chances, with forward Mongameli Tshuma missing key opportunities.

MWOS goalkeeper Francis Tizayi delivered a standout performance, keeping his side in the contest with a series of crucial saves.

Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari admitted his team dropped valuable points but remains optimistic.

“It is two points lost as you know we are chasing the first set of points. My boys failed to capitalise after starting off well. We ended up chasing the game but second half MWOS had more chances than us. We are now draw specialists, but we need to get better. The positive is we have kept a clean sheet. It is a process,” he said.

MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa was satisfied with the result.

“Getting a point is a plus for us it is never easy to get a point against Highlanders. A draw to us was a fair result considering where we are coming from after dropping points at home,” he said.

Elsewhere, CAPS United extended their winning run to three matches with a narrow win at Gibbo.

Former champions Simba Bhora edged TelOne FC 1-0 at Ascot, while newcomers Hardrock FC defeated Chicken Inn FC by the same margin at Chahwanda Stadium.

FC Hunters and FC Platinum played out a goalless draw at Rufaro Stadium, while Ngezi Platinum Stars beat ZPC Kariba FC 2-1 at Baobab Stadium.

Action continues this Thursday, with Bulawayo Chiefs hosting Dynamos FC at Barbourfields. Manica Diamonds face Scottland FC at Gibbo, while Herentals FC take on Agama FC at Rufaro Stadium.
