A Senior Teacher at Neuso Primary School in Sanyati has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a Grade 6 pupil, police have confirmed.
The suspect (name withheld to protect identity of the victim) also serves as a pastor at a local Seventh-day church, reportedly instructed several Grade 6 girls to clean his house — an act contrary to Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education policy.
Sources said that after the pupils had finished cleaning, the teacher allegedly sent some of them on an errand, leaving one pupil behind. It is during this time that he is suspected to have committed the offence.
The matter came to light after the child reported the incident to teachers, leading to the suspect’s arrest by Sanyati Police. The pupil has since been referred for medical examination and counselling.
A teacher at the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed concern over the alleged incident, calling for justice to take its course.
Police said investigations are underway, and the case will be referred to court once medical and forensic reports are complete. Efforts to get a comment from the Sanyati District Schools Inspector were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
