Nakamba Moves to Sheffield Wednesday

Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba has joined English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, just hours after his departure from Luton Town.

The move sees the 32-year-old moving up to the Championship as he looks to restart his career and secure regular game time.

Nakamba joined Luton in January 2023 from Aston Villa and played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League, making 20 appearances during that historic campaign.

Injuries, however, curtailed his involvement over the past two seasons, and the move to Sheffield Wednesday presents a fresh opportunity for the experienced midfielder to regain momentum.

Nakamba began his career with Bantu Rovers in Zimbabwe before moving to French side AS Nancy in 2012, where he spent two seasons. He then played for Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands for three years and later joined Belgian club, Club Brugge in 2017. In 2019, he moved to England to sign for Aston Villa, making 58 Premier League appearances over four seasons.

In January 2023, Nakamba joined Luton Town on loan and played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs. He later signed permanently for Luton, recording 14 Premier League appearances and a further 23 in the Championship.

On the international stage, Nakamba made his debut for Zimbabwe at the age of 21 and has since earned 36 caps. He has represented the country at three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and captained the Warriors, including at the 2025 edition. His latest move brings him to Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday add experience to their squad.
