Zanu PF confident ahead of Chikomba By-Elections

Preparations for the Chikomba District Ward 7 and 12 by-elections are underway, with Zanu PF expressing strong confidence that it will secure both seats, the party’s Mashonaland East provincial leadership has announced.

The ruling party has already completed its internal selection process, fielding Pardon Mudzimu in Ward 12 and Rosemary Fortunate Chakwanda in Ward 7.

Ward 7 became vacant following the death of Zanu PF councillor Florence Mudzamiri, while the Ward 12 seat opened after former CCC councillor Ishmael Maukazuva was jailed for having a sexual relationship with a minor.

Speaking on the sidelines of the party’s provincial coordinating committee meeting in Marondera, last Sunday, the provincial chairman, Daniel Garwe, said preparations are in full swing, with campaign teams deployed and resources already being channelled toward securing a victory.

He said the party held successful primary elections and that both candidates were duly approved during the nomination process.

According to the provincial leadership, campaign activities have been scheduled in both wards, with major launches set for February 7 and 14, 2026. Party officials will address supporters and mobilise voters ahead of the by-elections.

The ruling party remains confident of victory, expressing belief in its organisational strength and dominance in the district.

Garwe highlighted that the party expects to retain Ward 7 and reclaim Ward 12, adding that once secured, it intends to solidify its presence in both areas going forward.
