Zimbabwe reinforces Global Security Engagement

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, on Friday, intensified the country’s diplomatic outreach by participating in high-level discussions at the 62nd Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany, where she engaged global leaders on peace, security, and international cooperation.

Speaking on the sidelines of the globally recognised security forum, Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri underscored Zimbabwe’s commitment to constructive dialogue and multilateral engagement, positioning the country as an active stakeholder in international peace and security matters.

“Zimbabwe remains firmly committed to playing its part in promoting peace, stability, and security both regionally and globally.

“Our presence at this conference reflects our belief in dialogue, cooperation, and collective solutions to shared security challenges,”she added

The Minister emphasised that Zimbabwe views global security issues as interconnected, highlighting the need for inclusive approaches that recognise the perspectives of developing nations.

“No nation exists in isolation. Security threats, whether economic, environmental, or geopolitical, have far-reaching implications. It is therefore essential that international platforms such as this one foster inclusive participation and balanced dialogue,”she said

Muchinguri-Kashiri also used the platform to engage world leaders and policymakers on areas of mutual interest, including defence cooperation, capacity building, and regional stability.

“We are here not only to listen, but to contribute meaningfully. Zimbabwe is open to partnerships that strengthen peace-building initiatives, enhance security cooperation, and support sustainable development,”she added.

The Minister highlighted Zimbabwe’s longstanding contributions to regional peacekeeping efforts, noting that the country continues to prioritise stability within the Southern African region.

“Zimbabwe has consistently supported regional peace and security mechanisms. We recognise that development and security are inseparable, and we remain dedicated to advancing both,” Muchinguri-Kashiri said.

The Defence Minister advised that Zimbabwe’s participation signals its intention to remain engaged in global discourse.

“Zimbabwe values dialogue over division. We will continue to engage the international community in pursuit of shared prosperity, mutual respect, and lasting peace,” she said

Zimbabwe has in recent years pursued an active diplomatic engagement and re-engagement policy aimed at strengthening international relations, expanding cooperation, and enhancing its role in global affairs.

Participation in major international forums forms part of this strategy to position the country within key policy discussions on security, development, and economic cooperation.
