Cabinet has received reports on progress made in the implementation of priority projects under the First 100-Day Cycle of 2026, with notable milestones recorded across key sectors of the economy.

Speaking during yesterday’s Post-Cabinet Briefing, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Soda Zhemu, said the reports were presented by various line ministries in line with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS 2).

“Cabinet received reports on progress made in the implementation of priority projects under the First 100-Day Cycle of 2026, as presented by the Ministers of Health and Child Care; Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development; Transport and Infrastructural Development; Primary and Secondary Education; Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services; and Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture,” said Minister Zhemu.

Under the Social Development Pillar, Acting Minister of Health and Child Care, Professor P. Mavima, reported that five out of six targeted projects had been completed.

“These include the installation of solar systems at 17 health centres, installation of X-ray machines at Chitungwiza Central Hospital, Chipinge District Hospital and Gokwe South District Hospital, drilling of boreholes at 29 health facilities, construction of pharmacy stores at 26 facilities, and renovation works at health institutions, with laboratory upgrades now at 94 percent completion,” he said.

In the agriculture sector, progress has been recorded in irrigation development and dam construction.

“The Kanyemba Irrigation Scheme has been fully developed, while significant progress has been made at Mthabezi, Yomba and Laverstock irrigation schemes. The construction of Gwayi-Shangani Dam is now at 75 percent, while Kunzvi Dam has reached 71 percent completion,” said Minister Zhemu.

He added that Government had also supported agricultural productivity through fish stocking programmes, poultry distribution, and the rollout of tractors under various mechanisation initiatives.

On infrastructure development, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona, reported progress in road construction and rehabilitation projects.

“A 2.7 kilometre stretch of the Harare-Masvingo Highway has been completed and opened to traffic, while 18.3 kilometres of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road is now complete. Works are ongoing on other strategic road sections, including the Harare-Chirundu Highway,” said Minister Zhemu.

He noted that construction of the Mabvuku and Masasa interchanges is expected to ease congestion along the Harare-Mutare Highway.

In the education sector, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education reported progress in expanding access to learning facilities and improving infrastructure.

“Thirty-five learning centres have been registered, while infrastructure upgrades, construction of science laboratories, and development of boarding facilities are underway to enhance access to quality education,” he said.

The ICT sector has also recorded significant achievements, including exceeding targets in telemedicine connectivity.

“A total of 43 health institutions have been connected to telemedicine services, while progress has been made in satellite connectivity, e-learning platforms, and establishment of ICT laboratories in schools,” said Minister Zhemu.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture reported progress in cultural and recreational infrastructure development.

“Projects such as the refurbishment of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe are nearing completion, while works on cultural centres and community sports facilities are progressing well,” he said.

Minister Zhemu said the progress reflects Government’s commitment to accelerating development and improving service delivery across all sectors under NDS 2.
