Zimbabwe, Spain seal tourism cooperation pact

Government has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Zimbabwe and Spain aimed at boosting cooperation in tourism, a sector authorities say remains central to the country’s economic recovery and global re-engagement drive.

Announcing the decision during a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare yesterday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere, said Cabinet had endorsed the agreement, which seeks to deepen collaboration between the two nations.

“Cabinet approved the Memorandum of Understanding that will be entered into between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Kingdom of Spain on cooperation in the field of tourism,” he said.

Muswere said the MoU is designed to strengthen bilateral ties while positioning Zimbabwe to tap into Spain’s advanced tourism systems and digital marketing expertise.

“The objective of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries is to enhance and promote cooperation in the field of tourism through digital marketing, development of tourist destinations, diversification of tourist products and the development of sustainable tourism,” he said.

He added that Zimbabwe stands to benefit from knowledge exchange, particularly in modern tourism promotion strategies and sustainable destination development.

“The agreement is expected to support efforts by Government and the private sector to broaden the country’s tourism products and increase visibility in European market,”he said

Muswere stressed that the partnership underscores Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation.

“By entering into this Memorandum of Understanding, the two countries will also be strengthening their subsisting cordial relations,” he said.

The MoU forms part of ongoing initiatives by Government to revitalise the tourism industry, which is recovering from global shocks and working to regain momentum through new investments, destination branding and market diversification.
