A Harare man has approached the High Court seeking an order compelling former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, to fully account for the party’s finances before forming or registering any new political organisation.
In an application, filed on Thursday, Talent Rusere argues that Chamisa should be barred from launching a new political entity until there is a transparent handover of CCC assets and a comprehensive financial audit of the party’s affairs.
Rusere insists that the audit must include all assets acquired during Chamisa’s tenure among them an armoured vehicle reportedly procured for him in 2021, and should cover the administration of both state funds and donations received by the party.
According to the court papers, the applicant wants the audit to be independently certified by the Auditor-General and formally recognised by the current CCC leadership.
Rusere is also asking the court to compel Mr Chamisa to submit a verified financial report within 21 days, outlining how party finances were managed during his time at the helm.
The matter has now been placed before the High Court for consideration…more to follow.
